Online Knowledge Sharing Program for Maternal and Child Health Handbook (September 7-9, 2022)

From September 7th to 9th, 2022, the project jointly held the Knowledge Sharing Program on Maternal and Child Health Handbook with the Government of Indonesia (GOI, including Ministry of Health, National Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Development Planning Agency). Since 2007, JICA and the GOI have held an international training program on maternal and child health handbook every year.

The theme this year was "Enhancing the quality of care for early detection through Integrated health check-up for mother and child using maternal and child health handbook.". A total of 26 people from 8 countries, namely Cambodia, Kenya, Laos, Madagascar, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Indonesia, participated in the group discussion and actively exchanged their experiences and opinions. In addition, the MOH invited representatives of provincial and district health offices from all over Indonesia, international organizations such as UNFPA, UNICEF, World Bank, WHO, USAID, JHPIEGO representatives of professional organizations, and NGOs participated as observers.

Through KSP, it is expected to strengthen the capacity to hold international training by taking turns hosting the Centre of Excellences (COE) of maternal and child health in Indonesia every year. Two delegates from the Special Region of Jogjakarta joined with the last year's host, West Nusa Tenggara. They created a video of child health check-up being carried out in the pilot areas and shared the details of the activities with the participants from each country.

Also, Dr. Nida Rohmawati, the leader of the KSP implementation team of the Ministry of Health, was in charge of overall technical coordination, and Mr. Joko Tulodo from National Secretariat, was in charge of the floor manager including IT management.

Over the three days, the participants from each country reviewed their activity plans for FY2021 and shared their country's initiatives, and Ms. Keiko Osaki, JICA senior advisor shared global trends in line with the theme. The participants planned activities based on what they learned and noticed from other countries and global efforts. On the last day of the program, Dr. Nida and Ms. Osaki summarized the activity plans of each country.

Since 2021, the members of the Ministry of Health joined as facilitators for the group work of each country. This year, they participated from the beginning of a country presentation preparation with the participants. The facilitators showed a high level of commitment and deepened their understanding of the problems in each country and the progress of maternal and child health services.

According to the results of the questionnaire submitted by the participants after the program (interim report), all participants answered that the content of the program met their expectations (strongly agree 76.2%, agree 23.8%) and they could increase the knowledge (61.9% strongly agree, 38.1% agree)". The final evaluation result will be announced at the coordination meeting.
