Field Investigation of the Landslide which occurred in Bandung District

PhotoThe disaster site

On February 23rd, at Tenjolaya village in Pasirjambu Sub-District, Bandung District, West Java Province, heavy rainfall caused landslides and the collapsed sediment attacked the below tea plantation, houses, and buildings. This ended up such a disaster that the dead and missing were over 40 people.

On February 26th, JICA experts including Mr.Toshiyasu Ueno and Mr.Shusaku Shiiba conducted a field investigation for understanding the landslide disaster occurrence and the circumstances. Tenjolaya village locates 130 Km South East from Jakarta.

Due to the field investigation, we found out that the collapses occurred at steep slopes covered in forests. Then the collapsed sediment flowed down as mudflow and the part of it reached 500m ahead of a mountain stream. We need to be cautious about the further collapse spreading at the slopes and re-flow of unstable sediment which deposited a lot around the disaster area.
