Attended “Citizen Participation Workshop for Water Resources Management”

As part of Capacity Development Project for River Basin Organizations in Practical Water Resources Management and Technology, “Citizen Participation Workshop for Water Resources Management” took place in Bandung from April 12th to 14th. This workshop is intended for around 30 staffs in the River Basin Office of Ministry of Public Works throughout the country to learn the significance of citizen participation concerning water resources management.

During the workshop, Toshiyasu UENO expert explained the present condition of citizen participation in Jember District concerning Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management Project for “Banjir Bandang”. He introduced the educational activities to users of irrigation facilities, disaster drill with resident participation, alert by posters and banners, community discussion about actual situation of warning and evacuation, etc.

The participants listened with interest, including questions from the floor concerning functions of sediment control facilities. Our description this time is expected to become helpful in future activities.
