As an Event of the Campaign Month for Sediment Disaster Prevention, 2009 (from June 1st to 30th), works are contributed to “Paintings, Posters and Essays for Sediment Disaster Prevention” from elementary and junior high school students in all over Japan. We introduced and distributed the work of the first prize (the Minister of Construction’s Prize) to the counterparts of Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management for "Banjir Bandang" including Ministry of Public Works, East Java Province, and Jember District.

In Indonesia, for raising residents’ awareness for sediment disaster, Campaign for Sediment-Related Disaster Mitigation has been held every year from 2002. Also in Jember District, the model site of this Project, we are working on public awareness and education for "Banjir Bandang" such as conduction of evacuation drill and posting signs, etc. It is expected that sharing activities in both Japan and Indonesia where sediment disasters often occur would contribute to establishment of early warning and emergency measures for Banjir Bandang.

The suggestion that attention needs to be paid to technical terms and means of expression for describing the manuals in Indonesian version, etc. were given while we exchanged our views.

We will promote the preparation of the next supporting committee of our project while seriously taking these suggestions at the sectional meeting.
