From June 24th to 25th, “The Seminar on Socialization of Sediment Disaster Management” took place in Batam Island, the Province of Riau Archipelago. Around 100 people including technicians of Sabo technology of Ministry of Public Works throughout the country and local governments, etc. participated in this seminar.

On June 24th, the first day of the seminar, events including the 　keynote speech by Mr. Jaya Murni, acting director of River, Lake and Reservoir at Ministry of Public Works, etc. were held. On 25th, the following day, we received case reports from each office of Ministry of Public Works around the country. There were 4 case reports, such as the sediment disasters due to the Earthquake Disaster off the Coast of Padang occurred last September and the countermeasures, the actual condition of sediment discharge from Mt. Bawakaraeng, erosion control work in the Jeneberang River, etc. After each report, participants had a lively exchange of views.

Also on 25th, the time to introduce Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management Project for “Banjir Bandang” was given and Toshiyasu UENO expert explained the brief overview and progress of the project and Shusaku SHIIBA expert explained the contents of activities in Jember District.
