Photo: The Supporting Committee

On July 21^st, the Third Supporting Committee of "Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management Project for Banjir Bandang" was held at a conference room of Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works. The purpose of the Supporting Committee is to share information regarding the projects among the related agencies. The Second Supporting Committee was held in the last September.

At the committee, proceeding of the project, Project activity in Jember, and "Manuals (draft) for researching Banjir Bandang Hazardous area" were reported and the members exchanged opinions. As a result, we confirmed that Manuals (final) for researching Banjir Bandang Hazardous area, manuals for emergency evacuation for Banjir Bandang, and action plans for improving the capability for Banjir Bandang disaster mitigation shall be prepared by the next May. Also, a seminar in this October was scheduled. There are many requests and opinions from the attendees such as: clarification of the manual position; further cooperation among disaster prevention agencies including national, subnational, and local agencies; and establishment of a scheme to perform the project results.

The agencies who attended in this Supporting Committee are as below: Ministry of Public Works (Directorate of River, Lake and Reservoir; Brantas River Basin Office; Sabo Technical Centre; Research Centre for Water Resources), Bureau of Public Works in East Java Province, Jember District, Gadjah Mada University, Jember University, National Agency for Disaster Management, PMI (the Red Cross)Jember and JICA.
