Joined a community disaster management workshop

On July 23rd, at Ministry of Public Works in Jakarta, "Workshop on Community-Based Sand Mining and Disaster Risk Management in Mt. Merapi Area" was held. This workshop was held for the purpose of "improving the resident's awareness about disaster management" which JICA's ODA loan project, Urgent Disaster Reduction Project for Mt. Merapi/Progo River Basin, is working for. About 100 participants joined in the workshop including Ministry of Public Works, national, subnational, and local agencies from all over Indonesia.

At the workshop, Mr.Hermanto, the Vice Minister of Ministry of Public Works, made a speech and Professor Norio Okada from Disaster Prevention Research Institute Kyoto University delivered a session about on-going status of "Yonmen Kaigi System" in Merapi area which is for mitigating disaster damage among communities. Also, activities for community disaster preventions such as disaster prevention educations and evacuation trainings were reported. In addition, children performed "performance of disaster" and "Disaster Management Duck (a pose game which purposes to learn the first movement in the event of disaster)".

Toshiyasu Ueno expert explained the current situation of community disaster management in Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management project.
