Jember District started working on approval of Sediment Control Declarative School with cooperating with related agencies mainly Educational Department and Red Cross to give excellent education about sediment disaster control for children who take over next generation. On August 25th, a preparatory meeting was held at a lecture hall in Jember District Educational Department. Based on “Memorandum of Understanding regarding Early Preparedness Program for Banjir Bandang Disaster” which we signed the last year with SATLAK of Jember District, our Project was also requested a support to the activity and joined the meeting. At the meeting, discussion covered broad issues such as the concept and the final goal of Sediment Control Declarative School, planning of related events, schedules and roles, etc. Also, we explained about Banjir Bandang and the early warning and evacuations. After that, with considering the importance of management for "Banjir Bandang" in Jember District, they decided to add the contents of Banjir Bandang disasters and the early warning and evacuation to the program of Sediment Control Declarative School.

Even though, the meeting was held during Ramadan (fasting month), discussion was active. Not only Educational Department or PMI, but also Linmas (Residents protection agency) and school teachers joined the discussion. Although the activity has just started, we would like to support it as we think this is very important work looking at the future.
