Opinions exchange among experts of Multi-disciplinary Hazard Reduction from Earthquakes and Volcanoes

On 20th December, we have exchanged opinions with Prof. Kazuhiro ISHIHARA, Volcano Research Center attached to Disaster Prevention Research Institute Kyoto University, and Associate Prof. Masato IGUCHI, Kyoto University; both of them visited Indonesia as a short-term expert for "Multi-disciplinary Hazard Reduction from Earthquakes and Volcanoes in Indonesia".

The study theme for these specialists is "Methods for prediction of volcanic eruptions and those for evaluation of activity"; those experts have surveyed on the volcanic activity of Mt. Merapi and are engaged in prediction of volcanic eruptions by arranging GPS and the like.

Mr. Toshiyasu UENO, Expert of project on Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management for Banjir Bandang, explained on the state of sediment discharge occurred with the eruption of Mt. Merapi.  In addition, we have visited Volcano Study and Research Center and have been explained from staffs on the state of observation of volcanic activity as well as on an idea how to set up the volcanic warning level and the like.
