Indonesia-Japan Joint workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management was held

On 26th January, the Indonesia-Japan Joint workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management was held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Public Works. This workshop aims to promote further collaborative relationship between Indonesia and Japan by sharing information on both countries' activities for water resources management, as well as by exchanging views on future cooperation in Indonesia.

From Japan, the meeting had the participation of Mr. Naoyoshi Sato, Vice-Minister for Engineering Affairs of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and other related parties from MLIT and Incorporated Administrative Agency, and had presentations on water resources management, flood risk management, operation and management of water resources management facilities in Japan. From Indonesia, the meeting was participated by Dr. Amron, Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works and directors from other related directorates to Directorate of Water Resource Management, and they made presentations on flood management in Jakarta and water resources management and risk management in Indonesia. In the presentation of the risk management, debris flow disaster by the Mount Merapi eruption in 2010 was introduced.

Prior to this event, Mr. Sato, Vice-Minister for Engineering Affairs of the Ministry of Land made a courtesy call on Mr. Djoko Kirmanto, Minister for Public Works on 25th January. Minister Djoko expressed his appreciation for Japanese government for its sympathy and thoughtful consideration to the volcanic eruption on Mount Merapi and also for its technical assistance on Sabo conducted to this day, in order to mitigate volcanic debris flow disaster.
