A Lecture of Sediment Disaster by Disaster Prevention Sabo Division, Kochi Prefecture

On January 28th, Mr. Hariyono Utomo, the chief of Sabo Technical Center, Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works, and Mr. Edy, the head of Bakesbang (Residents protection agency) in Jember District, who have joined the counterpart trainings, listened to a lecture regarding sediment disaster, "Work for improving disaster prevention awareness" by Disaster Prevention Sabo Division, Kochi Prefecture. At the question-and-answer session, there were questions about methods to designate sediment-related disaster warning area, and volcanic activities caused by tsunami and earthquakes.

Mr.Edy made a comment that he recognized the all over Kochi Prefecture confronted to sediment disaster risks although in Jember District, 17 sub-districts, the half of sub-districts out of the total 34 sub-districts have had sediment disaster risks. He also commented that he understood not only infrastructural measures but also non-infrastructural measures such as information communication were necessary.
