The Supporting Committee

On June 21st, the Fourth Supporting Committee of "Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management Project" was held at a conference room of Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works. The purpose of the Supporting Committee is to share information regarding the projects among the related agencies. The Third Supporting Committee was held in July, 2010.

The committee was chaired by Dr.Amron, Director General of Water Resources. After report of project progress, activity contents in Jember, and "Manual for Researching Banjir Bandang Hazardous Area", "Manual for Emergency Evacuation for Banjir Bandang", "Action plans for improving the capability for Banjir Bandang disaster mitigation", the members exchanged opinions. Some participants proposed to install an organization to consider the contents and structure of the Manual and the Action.

The agencies who attended in this Supporting Committee are as below (participants are about 40 people): Directorate General of Water Resources in Ministry of Public Works (Directorate of River and Coastal, Directorate of Operational Management and Maintenance); Brantas River Basin Office; Sabo Technical Centre; Experimental Station for Sabo, Research Centre for Water Resources in Agency for Research and Development; Bureau of Public Works in East Java Province; Jember District; Gadjah Mada University; Jember University, National Disaster Management Agency; Jember PMI (the Red Cross) and JICA.
