Preparatory meeting for 10th anniversary seminar of Natural Disaster Management course foundation in Gadjah Mada University

A seminar co-held by Gadjah Mada University, Ministry of Public Works, and JICA has been prepared for 10th anniversary of Natural Disaster Management course (MPBA) foundation in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Gadjah Mada University as a part of the Integrated Sediment-related Disaster Management (ISDM) Project (2001-2006). The seminar is held from September 12th to 13th, in Yogyakarta.

MPBA course is Master course on the purpose of training high level engineers who can conduct and perform overall disaster prevention measures in central/regional government. This is also for establishing a program for training engineers.

At ISDM project, because establishing an engineer training program is one of the activity issues, they have supported the foundation of MPBA and its stable operation. Based on the Memorandum between Ministry of Public Works and Gadjah Mada University, staffs have been sent to this course from Ministry/Bureau of Public Work of all over Indonesia such as each Province and District every year. The total number of graduates is over 140 so far.

On June 27th, a preparatory meeting was held at Serayu-Opak River Basin Office in Ministry of Public Works, Yogyakarta. About 30 participants joined including professors in Gadjah Mada University, staffs from Ministry of Public Works, JICA Experts. At the meeting, opinions were exchanged about programs, issues of presentation, and the way of processing. Also, it was decided that we would present the activity result of Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management Project for "Banjir Bandang" at the seminar.
