Completion of Activities by Short-term Experts

Dr. Taro Uchida, Senior Researcher of Sabo Division, National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management, and Dr. Atsuhiko Kinoshita, Manager of Quality Assurance and Investigation, Rokko Sabo Office, Kinki Regional Development Bureau; both of them have visited Indonesia from 12th September to give a guidance on "Researching hazardous area" and "Emergency Evacuation", have completed all of their activities and left for home.

During their visit in Indonesia, both short-term experts have given lectures in "National Seminar on Sediment Flow Handling and Dies Natalis 10th of Master Program in Management of Natural Disasters, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada" on "Method for Prediction of disasters triggered by deep-catastrophic Landslide" and "Sediment-related Disaster Warning and Evacuation System". In addition, they give concrete advices on the "Method for Identification of Deep Seated Landslide Hazardous Area" in the supervision team meeting for Manual and Action Plan. In the lecture they gave in the Public Works Bureau of the East Java Province, they gave a training on the "Method for Identification of Deep-Seated Landslide " by means of aerial photos. They also give technical guidance in the table-top training for emergency evacuation for Banjir Bandang, which was held in Pakis Village in Jember District.

On 20th September, the last day of their activities, they have reported of their activities in Indonesia above in the Ministry of Public Works and JICA Indonesia Office as well. The short-term experts have indicated the importance on continuing implementation of the training to establish the "Early Warning and Emergency Measures for Banjir Bandang" and "Preparedness of Countermeasures for Large-scale Disaster" as well. In addition, they have attended the meeting with the local consultant staffs and have exchanged opinions on things to keep in mind in the case of applying the "Manual for Researching Banjir Bandang hazardous area" in Indonesia.
