Preliminary discussions for Annual National Campaign for Sediment-related Disaster Mitigation

On September 23rd, Mr. Edy, Head of Board of Nation Unity, Politic and Public Protection in Jember district, Mr. Hariyono Utomo, Chief of Sabo Technical Centre, Ministry of Public Works, Mr. Toshiyasu UENO expert and Mr. Keiji YOSHIDA expert of Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management Project for "Banjir Bandang", etc. made preliminary discussions for Annual National Campaign for Sediment-related Disaster Mitigation at the office of Board of Nation Unity, Politic and Public Protection in Jember district.

The Annual National Campaign for Sediment-related Disaster Mitigation has been held every year since 2002 by Ministry of Public Works with the aim of raising awareness of residents on sediment disasters. Last year, it was held at Garut District, West Java Province.

During the meeting, they agreed to arrange with the view to holding the Annual National Campaign for Sediment-Related Disaster Mitigation of this year in Jember district in October. Mr. Hariyono Utomo suggested the holding of panel discussions to exchange information regarding disaster-prevention activities on which governments and each resident organization have been engaged by reference to operated cases in Japan. Mr. UENO expert expressed his idea of implementing evacuation drills (field training exercise) based on the Warning and Evacuation Manual made for the Jompo River as a related event of the Annual National Campaign for Sediment-related Disaster Mitigation.
