The Seminar on Socialization of Sediment Disaster Management

In the period from 27th to 28th of October, ‘The Seminar on Socialization of Sediment Disaster Management’ has been held in Solo City, Central Java Province. In this seminar, about 100 Sabo engineers from the nation-wide relevant organizations in the Ministry of Public Works as well as the Provincial Governments have been participated.

Besides the keynote speech made by Mr. Pitoyo, Director of River and Coastal, anecdotal reports have been introduced by the local office of the Ministry of Public Works as well as the Regional Bureaus of Public Works. The anecdotal reports introduced have been 4 cases such as; Banjir Bandang having occurred in October 2010 in Wasior City, Teluk Wondama District, West Papua Province and the response to it; current status of sediment discharge from Mt. Bawakaraeng; Sabo Works at Jeneberang River, and the like. After the reporting of those cases, views have been exchanged lively.

Time has been spared for introduction of the Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management for ‘Banjir Bandang’; Mr. Keiji Yoshida, expert, has delivered a lecture on the outline, progress and activities of the said project.
