A counterpart training has started from January 28, and it will be finished by February 4. 6 persons takes part in this training, Mr. Pitoyo Subandrio, Director of Rivers and Beaches, Dr. Agus Suprapto, Chief of Sub-directorate of Policy and Strategy in Directorate of Planning and Programming, Mr. Arun Samudro, Chief of Sub-directorate of Conservation and Sedimentation Infrastructure in Directorate of River and Coastal, Mr. Sudarsono, Chief of Sub-directorate of Disaster Mitigation in Directorate of Operational Management and Maintenance, and Mr. Hariyono Utomo, Head of SABO Technical Centre from Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works with Dr. Untung Santosa, Head of Sabo Experimental Station in Water Resources Research Center from Research and Development Agency, Ministry of Public Works.

The purpose of this training is to deepen their knowledge of the ideal method and the aim for Banjir Bandang disaster risk management in Indonesia by that the counterpart of Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management Project will have a policy dialogue with Japan regarding the present situation and measures of Banjir Bandang disaster and make an on-the-spot inspection of the disaster management situation. Therefore, they expect Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works and Disaster Management Organizations to continue taking measures to reinforce the ability to manage Banjir Bandang disaster even after this project finishes.

On the first day of this training, January 30, the trainees paid a courtesy visit to the head quarters of JICA and SABO Department, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to tell what they plan to do in this training. They also paid a courtesy to the chairman of Keluarga SABO Japan, Mr. Tadahiro Matsushita, Senior Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry to renew their old friendship.
