Held "Terminal Seminar"

Prior to project termination in March, we held "Terminal Seminar" as culmination of the activities on 27th February in Ministry of Public Works in Jakarta.

In the opening, after greetings from Amron, Director General of Water Resources, Motofumi Obara, Representative of JICA Indonesia office, Shigeru Ushio, Minister of Embassy of Japan in Indonesia and Noriyuki Minami, Director General of SABO Department, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Record of Discussion on intercommunication promotion of SABO were signed by Amron Director General of Water Resources and Minami Director General of SABO Department. After that, autograph letter from keluarga Sabo, Chairman of Japan Association (Tadahiro Matsushita Senior Vice Minister of Reconstruction Agency) was delivered personally to Suyono, former-Minister of Public Works and chairman of Ikatan Keluarga Sabo Indonesia from Koichi Kondo, President of SABO Technical Center.

Then Expert Toshiyasu Ueno had a presentation on project achievements and future prospects. Also, a short-term expert, Tadanori Ishizuka, leader of Volcano and Debris Flow Research Team of Public Works Research Institute and Yoichi Washio, Head of Investigation and Quality Control of Shikoku mountainous SABO office, Shikoku Regional Development Bureau gave lectures.

Expert Ishizuka explained overview of micro-topography decipherment and three factors used for degree of hazard determination, disaster record, geological condition, topography, and also explained check points of emergency study when sediment disaster that accompanies natural dam formation occurs. Expert Washio emphasised, having sediment disaster in Shikoku region as an example, the importance of recording disaster and the meaningless of hazard map which was studied and developed based on manual and precaution evacuation standard unless they are wide-spread among citizens. Hariyono Utomo, Head of SABO Technical Centre indicated that recognizing the place with the highest occurrence risk of sediment disaster, using the achievement of this project, would be the first step. Although existing disaster prevention planning was inclined to handling after disaster, diffusing for development of precaution structure in various locations, based on the manual of this project, are needed.

Lastly, Pitoyo, Director of River and Coastal, Directorate General of Water Resources had closing speech and wrapped-up that we have responsibility to diffuse achievement of this project widely to end the seminar.

Also, prior to the seminar, Minami Director General of SABO Department had a talk with Joko Kirmanto, Minister of Public Works and confirmed continuous cooperation by both countries for SABO.
