Disaster sites by "Banjir Bandang" at Sungai Tarap, Tanah Datar District, West Sumatra Province were investigated on April 6-7, 2009. Disaster sites are the whole regions at east foot of Mt. Merapi , where "Banjir Bandang" occurred by rainfall on March 30th.

Investigations were operated on a conjoint basis including concerned parties of  Ministry of Public Works such as Sabo Technical Centre and technical cooperation experts from JICA through Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management for "Banjir Bandang". Prior to field investigations, we visited the Disaster Countermeasures Office in the government buildings of Tanah Datar District and were received explanations of disaster conditions by the governor.

Then, we investigated disaster sites by "Banjir Bandang". In the mountain streams at aforementioned regions, massive discharge of debris and flood-woods occurred and many bridges were washed out. Public facilities such as schools, mosques, etc. and many houses were also damaged. In the middle of Mt. Merapi , as its upper river basin, there was a massive landslide scar and in middle/ downstream basin, river bed and riverbank was denudated and a large amount of debris and flood-woods were deposited in some zones.

On completion of field investigations, we visited the Bureau of Public Works in East Java Province, reported results of investigations and discussed future actions.
