The Kick-off Meeting in Jember took place.

On April 16, 2009, the Kick-off Meeting took place in Jember District, East Java Province. There is a model site of this project in Jember District. In this site, natural dam was formed and was broken by intense rainfall in January, 2006, which caused extensive damages.  

Around 60 members including disaster prevention bureaus in Jember District, concerned agencies in local, Bureau of Public Works in East Java Province, responsible persons of Ministry of Public Works, etc. participated in the Kick-off Meeting. After the greetings by Eko Head of Brantas River Basin Office as organizer and vice-governor in Jember District, Widagdo as Director of River, Lake and Reservoir at Ministry of Public Works explained the brief overview of Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management for "Banjir Bandang".

Then, current conditions, countermeasures, etc. of "Banjir Bandang" disasters in Japan and Indonesia were introduced and Professor S. Darmanto, Gadjah Mada University delivered the lecture of concepts of disaster preventions in communities at the end. This theme was worked in cooperation with  Gadjah Mada University as the Integrated Sediment-related Disaster Management (ISDM) Project (2001-2006) and participants listened in it with great interest.
