A newest website has been established by Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management for "Banjir Bandang".

In Indonesia, natural disasters such as earthquake, tsunami, volcanic hazard, flood, etc. occur frequently in late years, which caused loss of many lives and properties. "Banjir Bandang" in this project is one of those natural disasters.

Massive debris flow or flood damage caused by debris flow is called "Banjir Bandang", which is associated with formation of dammed lake (natural dam) in most cases. The main object of this project is "Banjir Bandang" as massive debris flow disasters, especially the one with formation of dammed lake.

On June 27, 2008, the Preliminary Survey Mission and Directorate General of Water Resources (Ministry of Public Works, Republic of Indonesia) agreed with the contents of implementation of this project and signed the Minutes of Meeting. The object of this project is to enhance capacity of Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works and disaster prevention agencies at main hazardous areas to deal with "Banjir Bandang" over the coming three years from November, 2008.

2 experts for technical cooperation, Toshiyasu UENO and Shusaku SHIIBA arrived at their post on November 24th and the project has been started. Each of them is positioned in Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works in Jakarta and Brantas River Basin Office of Ministry of Public Works in Surabaya to progress the project by close liaison with cooperated organizations.
