On June 17, Toshiyasu Ueno, Export of JICA, has visited Mr. Takeshi Ito, Lecturer in Akita University; who has been playing an active role as an expert in JICA Partnership Program, “Capacity Building Project on the Ground Disaster-prevention Technology in the Mountainous Area in Indonesia” based on The Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) in Bandung.

This project will be executed for 3 years starting from this year, in where the landslide alarm system will be built and, at the same time, the disaster prevention education course will be planned for the local residents. At the moment, installation of a landslide monitoring system is being prepared at 92km area of Cipularang Highway (a highway between Jakarta and Bandung).

In order to develop a Warning-and-Evacuation System to cope with the flash flood (banjir bandang); installation of the rain-gauge as well as the disaster prevention drill, especially, for the purpose of increasing disaster prevention awareness of in the local residents will be planned in the “Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management Project”, too.

From now on, we will tie-up closely with the said project, too, and will share the information obtained among such activities; in doing so, it is expected that the project will be executed more effectively and efficiently.
