On July 14, we have exchanged information with the people involved to the Research Centre for Water Resources and Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre in Bandung.

Bandung is the provincial capital of West Java Province that is located about 100 km East-South of Jakarta. Height from the sea level at the central part of Bandung is 700m and this city is surrounded by mountains of 2000m class. It is well known as an academic city; there are famous Institute Teknologi Bandung (ITB) as well as various national research institutions.

Research Centre for Water Resources is a research institute belonging to Agency for Research and Development, Ministry of Public Works; it has been playing an important role in addressing various issues related to execution of the project under the control of Ministry of Public Works such as compilation of a technical guideline for the project and the like. At this moment, a JICA Expert, Dr. Yokito Sugimura,  chief advisor on ‘Capacity Development Project for River Basin Organizations in Practical Water Resources Management and Technology ’ belongs to this institute.

Meanwhile, Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre is an institute belonging to Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; it has been doing researches on various kinds of natural disasters as well as compilation of the geological maps of various areas and the like. It has a plan to hold a symposium concerning Banjir Bandang (flash flood) in the coming October in Jember.
As to the information obtained through execution of the ‘Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management Project ’, we will positively exchange them with the both institutions mentioned above.
