In July 2009, heavy rainfall that hit Chugoku Region and Northern part of Kyushu has caused many sediment-related disasters in the various locations in those areas. In Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, a special elderly nursing home has been hit by the debris flow, which caused extensive damage including 7 victims.

We have distributed the summary of the data on the said sediment-related disaster to the persons concerned of the counterpart of the ‘Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management Project’, that is, Ministry of Public Works, East Jawa Province and Jember Prefecture.

The overall goal of the ‘Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management Project’ is to establish Early warning and emergency measures for Banjir Bandang at the hazardous areas all over Indonesia. We would like to progress this project by sharing the case examples of banjir bandang arisen in Japan.
