On September 7, 2009, the Second Supporting Committee of Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management for "Banjir Bandang" took place at the conference room of Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works. This supporting committee is intended to share the project information among concerned agencies, etc. and the first meeting was held in this March.

In the committee, after receiving the reports concerning the contents of previous activities, we conducted exchanges of views on future plans. As a result, we confirmed creation of “Banjir Bandang Hazard Map” and “Banjir Bandang Hazardous Area Survey Manual (draft)” with the target set at next June. In addition, this November we will hold a seminar and establish sectional committee in the supporting committee as well.

We received a broad range of requests/opinions from the participants, such as clarification of responsibilities of each agency who participates in the supporting committee, preparation of the manual, etc. suited to natural conditions/social conditions in Indonesia.

In addition, the agencies who attended in this supporting committee are as below: Ministry of Public Works (Director General of Water Resources, Director of River, Lake and Reservoir, Sub Directorate Head of Operation and Mitigation, Head of Brantas River Basin Office, Director of Sabo Technical Centre, Head of Experimental Station for Sabo, Research Centre for Water Resources), Bureau of Public Works in East Java Province, Jember District, Gadjah Mada University, Jember University, National Disaster Management Agency, and JICA.
