On September 11, 2009, the seminar concerning prevision and countermeasures against natural disasters was held at the lecture hall of PMI (the Red Cross) in Jember District. The seminar is held by PMI Jember every year as an educational activity concerning prevention of disasters. In this year, around 100 people including each Head of municipality in Jember District, staffs of PMI Jember and related organizations, NGOs and student volunteers, were participated.

In the opening session, Mr. Edi Budi Susilo, who is the second assistant of the Governor and is responsible for economic and development, celebrated the opening of the seminar and explained to participants about the Banjir Bandang project as well. In the session of seminar, Shusaku SHIIBA specialist provided the subject about warning and evacuation in early stages and premonitory phenomena, etc. relating sediment disasters.

The participants said appreciative words to provision of the subject and asked several questions about the contents of the project.

We plan to contribute to growing awareness of sediment disasters at every occasion in the future.
