Japan-Indonesia Sabo Technical Cooperation by the Japanese government has been continuously provided to the present since the long-term expert of Sabo was dispatched in 1970. During that time, the experts promoted the improvement of technologies of investigation/planning/design/construction relating to sabo in Indonesia as well as transferring sabo technology and providing technical cooperation by sending many trainees from Indonesia to Japan. Furthermore, “Keluarga SABO (Family of Erosion Control)” was established both in Japan (Chairman: Mr. Tadahiro Matsushita, the Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry) and in Indonesia (Chairman: Mr. Suyono Sosrodarsono, former minister of Public Works) as alumni associations for the people engaged in sabo technical cooperation, and the interaction between them has been continued to this day.
On October 7, 2009, related persons including Chairman of Keluarga SABO from Japan and Indonesia gathered in the city of Jakarta, talked about each other's news, etc. and pledged to meet again to each other. As described above, it has reached a high stage to boost mutual exchanges beyond the bounds of technical transfer.
