Information exchange among experts of Multi-disciplinary Hazard Reduction from Earthquakes and Volcanoes

On October 12th, information exchange was carried out among experts; Professor Atsushi Tanaka, Director of The Center for Integrated Disaster Information Research (CIDIR) in the University of Tokyo, who visited Indonesia as a Short-term expert of Multi-disciplinary Hazard Reduction from Earthquakes and Volcanoes in Indonesia Project, Mr. Yasuhito Jibiki, researcher at Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies in the University of Tokyo, and Mr. Naoya Sekiya, instructor at Faculty of Sociology in Toyo University.
The experts, who visited Indonesia this time, deal with the issue of Intercommunication Methods and Psychology of Disaster Victim in the event of a Natural Disaster. They aim to ensure residents’ evacuation by improving intercommunication methods with utilizing the psychological analysis study. Their study subject is set on evacuation from Mt. Kelud volcano eruption, and they are going to have questionnaires and interviews to related agencies and residents around the area.

Mr.Toshiyasu Ueno, expert of Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management projects, explained about the Indonesian administrative organization regarding hazard reduction and its current situation and issues.
The overall goal of the Banjir Bandang Disaster Mitigation Management Project is to establish early warning and emergency measures for Banjir Bandang at the hazardous areas all over Indonesia. The results of both projects are expected to progress further through their information sharing.
