Short-term experts gave lectures at the National Seminar for Sediment Disaster

From November 11th to 12th, the National Seminar for Sediment Disaster was held at Magelang city in central Java province. About 150 participants from all over the national and regional agencies joined in the seminar, including engineers in Ministry of Public Works who graduated Natural Disaster Management Graduate School in Gajah Mada University.

At the opening ceremony on 11th, Mr. Widagdo, Director for River, Lake and Reservoir, Ministry of Public Works, delivered a keynote speech and Mr. Toshiyasu Ueno, expert reported on the activity of Integrated Disaster Mitigation Management Project for "Banjir Bandang".

On 12th, the next day, adding to staffs from Gajah Mada University and the Sabo Technical Centre, Short-term experts who were sent from Japan gave lectures. The Short-term experts’ lectures are as following: “Damage Estimation of deep-seated landslide and Natural Dam and its’ Hazard Mapping” by Dr. Taro Uchida, Senior Researcher in Public Works Research Institute, “Debris flow Survey and Setting Range of Sediment-related Disaster Hazard Area etc ” by Mr. Shigetaka Takiguchi, Construction specialist in Kyusyu Regional Development Bureau, “Application of Debris Flow Simulation” by Ms. Yuki Nishiguchi, Collaborating Researcher in Public Works Research Institute, “Important Aspects of micro –topography Interpretation ” by Mr. Osamu Yokoyama, Collaborating Researcher in Public Works Research Institute.
