Merapi Festival Took Place

PhotoLesson for Disaster Management Dance

On November 15th, Merapi Festival took place at Gajah Mada University in Jogjakarta. This festival is held for the purpose of “improving the resident’s understanding about disaster management” which JICA’s ODA loan project, Urgent Disaster Reduction Project for Mt. Merapi/Progo River Basin project, is working for.  200 participants joined in the festival including local residents and members form disaster prevention agencies, etc.

At the venue, there are exhibition about Mt.Merapi volcano activities and disaster management, etc. Ms.Hiromi Kurosaki, assistant professor in Nagoya University, gave lessons of Disaster Management Dance to learn procedures of evacuation with music to kinder garden kids. Painting competition regarding landslide disaster was also held, Dr.Dony, Director for Irrigation/Water Resource, National Development Planning Agency awarded the top painter and gave a commemorative gift.

Also, a workshop was held. Tow processors from Disaster Prevention Research Institute in Kyoto University delivered sessions. Professor Norio Okada explained “Yonmenkaigi System” which is for reducing disaster damage among communities, and Processor Katsuya Yamori explained “Disaster Management Duck”, a pose game which purposes to learn the first movement in the event of disaster.
