On December 22nd, sabo investigations were operated at Mt. Papandayan volcano in the headstream areas of Cimanuk river in West Java Province.

Mt. Papandayan volcano has erupted repeatedly for quite some time. Around 3000 people were killed by the eruption in 1772. Recently, it erupted in 2002. As a result, large volume of volcaniclastic material is deposited near the crater, which becomes debris flow every time there is heavy rain to cause damages. Plenty of fumarolic gas was confirmed near the crater.

In Cimanuk river located around 65km from the crater, Jatigede Multi-purpose Dam is under construction by loans from China.
