Field investigation at Mt.Bromo Volcano

PhotoThe crater of Mt.Bromo Volcano which was erupting fumarolic gas

We investigated Mt.Bromo Volcano (summit elevation: 2,329m) which locates north of Tengger/Semeru Range in East Java Province. Mt.Bromo Volcano erupts every few years recently. In 2004, 2 tourists were killed by an eruption.

At the south end of Tengger/Semeru Range (20Km south from Mt.Bromo Volcano), there is Mt.Semeru Volcano (summit elevation: 3,676m), which is the highest mountain in Java Island. Because many disasters occurred by pyroclastic flows or debris flows and mudflows at the south-east slopes of the mountain, Sabo facilities (soil-erosion control structures) are now constructed by Mt.Semeru Volcanic Disaster Countermeasures Project.
