PhotoThe Bluncong River which flooded on February 4th

We conducted SABO investigation (erosion control investigation) in Bondowoso and Situbondo Districts which locate north of Jember District, the model site of the Project. At Bondowoso office in Bureau of Public Works in East Java Province, Mr.Agus, Head of the office, explained landslide disaster occurrence and condition in the both districts before the field investigation.

Around the area, because a large volume of sediment is discharged from mountains and rivers, it overflows every time of rainfall in many places. On January 13th in this year, in Besuki Sub-District, Situbondo District, houses and bridges flowed and main roads were blocked out by sediment flood. Also on February 4th, the Bluncong River in Pandak village, Kalbang Sub-district, Bondowoso District, flooded. The Bluncong River is a meandering stream whose river bed rose by sediment flow-in. Every time flood occurs, the river changes flow passage.
