Community Discussion was practiced

From late February, we practice group discussions at community level. This is planned to prepare for the warning and evacuation systems of the next fiscal year. The purpose of the discussion is to clear issues by gathering information about resident awareness and current situation of evacuation system at each region, and to share common perceptions among the regions.

For planning and operation, we cooperated with professors in Jember University, who have abundant experiences regarding programs of regional ability improvement and regional group discussions.

On February 24th, discussions in KelungKung village in Sukorambi Sub-District and Pace village in Silo Sub-District were operated with about 20 participants including regional residents and local government staffs. Under Jember University’s host, participants have free discussion about the past disaster damage and the countermeasures, daily preparation in their region, and communication systems and schemes.

Also, opinions and information which residents gave are written on paper by staffs from Jember University for better understanding of discussion contents.

Through the discussions, for example about communication system, basic issues are cleared such as difference of acknowledgment among residents regarding beating measures and the meaning of Kentongan. Kentongan, a traditional tool, is used in one region, but not in the other.

We plan to provide further insights into the warning and evacuation systems with the District and regional government after analyzing the discussion result with Jember University.
