The keynote speech of Inspector General, Dr.Basuki

From March 8th to 9th, in Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, “International Workshop on Multimodal Disasters Triggered by Heavy Rainfall and Earthquake and the Countermeasures” was held. The workshop was co-held by Gadjah Mada University, Kyoto University, Tsukuba University, and Ritsumeikan University.

At the front, Professor Djoko Legono in Gadjah Mada University which is host of the workshop gave a welcoming remark. Then the Deputy Dean, Dr. Bambang from Gadjah Mada University the Faculty of Engineering, gave a workshop opening. Subsequently, Professor Masaharu Fujita from Kyoto University and Inspector General, Dr.Basuki from Ministry of Public Works gave keynote speeches. Prof. Fujita gave information about Risks of Multimodal Sediment Disasters accompanying climate change, and Dr.Basuki, Inspector General, did about Disasters and countermeasures regarding Sidoarjo mud volcano.

The workshop consists of 4 sessions and 26 papers. Researchers and engineers from Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and so on made presentations and have active discussions. JICA Expert, Mr. Toshiyasu Ueno made a presentation about "The Occurrence of Landslides by the Earthquake off the Coast of Padang".
