PSBM:Provincial Education Office of Banten showed strong commitment to Improve Teacher's Quality

PELITA together with Provincial Education Office of Banten, and Provincial Religious Office of Banten, and District and City Implementation Team of Pandeglang District, Serang District and Serang City conducted provincial coordination meeting.

This meeting discussed about how to improve the quality of principal, teacher, and student. Then it was continued by reports from each institution about the progress of PSBM Independent programs. One of activities in the report was Lesson Study implementation in schools.

The Head of Curriculum Section of Pandeglang District Education Office, Mr. Warso said that in 2011 Local Government of Pandeglang already secured the budget by amount 380 million rupiah for PSBM Independent, and 350 million rupiah for 2012. "We are focusing on togetherness of SMP and MTs. This fund is used for operational of TPK (Sub-district Development Team)'s activity to improve the competence of principal, teacher, and student," says Warso.

Head of Provincial Education Office of Banten, Hudaya Latuconsina said that based on survey result, teacher's competency is still low in Banten. "We will do mapping of how to improve teacher's quality. We found that JICA program is good to be implemented in Banten. I would like to create a new program based on know-how ," says Hudaya.

Mr. Koji Sato, team leader of PELITA JICA said that the weakness of teacher‘s quality in Indonesia is lack of motivation and communication. He considered that certification or giving money to teacher doesn't bring motivation. "In Japan, teachers have a proud on their job. The communication between teachers and students run well. Teachers have high passion to teach. When the teachers like to teach, the students will also study with a pleasant. Therefore motivation and communication are important," he said.

The discussion will be held with PELITA menbers to make a new program for Banten Province.
