UNY conducted TOT for Lesson Study

National University of Yogyakarta (UNY), for the 4th time, organized Training of Trainer (TOT) for Lesson Study program, in LPMP Yogyakarta, from October 13 to 21, 2012, and attended by 60 participants from central area.). The activity was a part of cooperation between UNY and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) for the quality improvement of SMP/MTs (PELITA) Program.

The Dean of Mathematics and Science Faculty (FMIPA) of UNY, Dr Hartono, stated that Lesson Study learning method has produced positive impacts for students and teachers. Therefore, its development becomes a necessity for the improvement of education in Indonesia.

"From various cases in Yogyakarta, especially in Bantul District, the implementation of Lesson Study in many schools have shown positive impacts, such as the improvement of academic achievement in the school, which ultimately made the school to be awarded as high-achieving school," explained Hartono.

Hartono also added that FMIPA, which has been the representative of UNY in implementing the program, has done a lot of things in developing Lesson Study, such as by providing many trainings for teachers and schools so that Lesson Study becomes a learning culture that could drive the success of learning in schools. The Rector of UNY, Prof Rochmad Wahab, stated that his institution was pleased that they could cooperate with JICA in developing Lesson study.

The people in charge for this Lesson Study activity were two lecturers from UNY, Made S and Yosaphat. In this TOT, the participants also visited several schools which implemented Lesson Study.
