Opening Ceremony held in Amman

This Project was designed based on the achievements of a series of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Reproductive health and women's empowerment projects carried out in the Southern Jordan region for more than 15 years since 1997. During the projects in the South region, unique approaches to bridge the gaps between the primary health facilities and community people had been employed. The projects were highly evaluated for their contributions to increasing women's empowerment and decreasing the Total Fertility Rate in remote and underserved areas in the South region. Based on these remarkable experiences, this new Project aims at improvement in primary health care and reproductive health services through linking

village health centers and people in communities in the Northern regions. The Project targets are both Jordanian people and Syrian refugees in communities where there have been massive influxes of Syrian refugees. The new Project was launched according to the health resources and needs in the target areas.

To mark the commencement of the Project, an Opening Ceremony was held in Amman on the 3rd of August 2016. The purpose of the ceremony was to introduce the outline of the project and contents of the project activities and to gather comments on the project approaches and current situations in the partner community. A total of 46 stakeholders participated, specifically 8 officials from the central Ministry of Health (MOH), 14 officials from health directorates, 4 officials from Higher Population Council (HPC), 11 development partners and representatives from JICA Jordan office as well as the members of the Project team. The major comments from the participants were focused on the areas of indicators of Project Design Matrix (PDM) and consideration of the Project sustainability after the Project termination. To take these points into consideration, the Project Work Plan will be reviewed and revised.

It became a great opportunity for the Project, for both sharing the project features with various stakeholders and for developing collaborative networks among them.
