October 16th ~ 20th and October 24th ~ 27th 2016
Family Planning and Counseling Training was conducted for nursing staff who are working at the Village Health Centers in three Health Directorates; Irbid, Mafraq and Balqa.
Supervisors from each directorate along with family planning supervisors from the Ministry of Health were the trainers for this training session. Nurses learned about general family planning, the characteristics of each method, and practiced communication and counseling skills in order to provide family planning services. Some directorate trainers provided interactive training that was participant centered and got the nurses to actively participate. Other directorate trainers provided more of the lecture based training. However, in each training session, almost all of the participants were actively and enthusiastically participating. This was a great opportunity for the nursing staff as they don't have many opportunities for training. There was a lot of positive feedback from the nurses. Many were grateful for the opportunity and want to participate in more training sessions like this. We look forward to seeing the nurses develop their knowledge and capacity to provide good health services.
Up until recently, family planning services were not provided at the Village Health Centers in the northern part of Jordan. However, after and because of our training, the service is now provided at those village health centers. We are looking forward to enabling more women to access family planning services more easily through this effort.
