KEMRI ISO 9001:2008 Certification Ceremony

Our project counterpart, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), held a ceremony to celebrate obtaining the ISO 9001: 2008 (Quality Management System) certification at KEMRI Headquarters on Wednesday, October 16, 2013.

This certification ISO 9001: 2008 was given for KEMRI institution as a whole. The attainment is a testament to the years of work by people such as Dr. Kimotho, our project co-manager and the Head of KEMRI Production Department, played under "ALL KEMRI."

Mr. James Macharia, Cabinet Secretary for Health, and Prof. Fred Segor, Principal Secretary, were among the members to attend the ceremony to receive the certification from SGS (Societe Generale de Surveillance) Kenya Limited, the company that certifies ISO. Mr. Macharia expressed his gratitude to the partners of KEMRI and put emphasis on importance of investment and financial support to the Research and Development (R&D) from the government to enhance economic development in Kenya.

KEMRI Production Department is working towards obtaining the following ISO certification to expand their product line:

ISO 17043: 2010 – Conformity assessment – General requirements for proficiency testing
ISO 13485: 2003 – Quality Management System for Medical Devises

Our project will continue to support KEMRI's activity through the development of rapid diagnostic test kits so that KEMRI can acquire sustainable operating foundations.
