An Approval Ceremony for Two ISOs at KEMRI Production Department and Opening of a New Laboratory

Photo

A ceremony was held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at KEMRI Headquarters to commemorate the approval of two ISOs at KEMRI Production Department (PD) and opening of a new laboratory.

After ISO 9001:2008 was approved in 2013, the KEMRI-PD staff members have been working hard to acquire the last two ISOs. Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) handed over the following ISOs:

  1. ISO 17043: 2010 Conformity assessment – general requirements for proficiency testing (KENAS)
  2. ISO 13485: 2003 Quality management systems – medical devises (KEBS)

The KEMRI-PD was approved as a facility where production is undertaken in an environment that meets national conformity standards. It was a great leap forward for KEMRI-PD to acquire World Health Organization (WHO) certification and to market products across Africa.

KEMRI-PD staff members were happy and motivated to hear the news. Once the project's efforts to develop yellow fever and Rift Valley fever rapid test kits is successful, it will help in operationalizing KEMRI-PD sustainably. The project members will work hard to keep the collaborative environment at KEMRI-PD to develop the test kits.
