Dr. Inoue gave a lesson titled "To Combat the Tropical Viral Diseases!" at the Nairobi Japanese School on 17th June, 2015.
At Japanese School in Nairobi, an "Africa Learning" class is provided each semester. Dr. Inoue, a JICA Expert, took this opportunity to tell children about specific tropical disease in Kenya and Africa based on his expertise in virology. The class was organized carefully because the attendees were broad and included various students from grade 1 to grade 9. Dr. Inoue explained virus in terms of size, shape and characteristics. In addition, Dr. Inoue provided some research experiences for the pupils. They observed the mosquito cells and monkey cells in a high-performance inverted microscope that the researchers use. They put a reagent to a diagnostic test kit (designed for demonstration use) developed under the SATREPS Project. They also tried on protective clothing that the researchers wear during handling of dangerous virus. Having such a well-arranged class, the pupils seemed to enjoy the class.
We are going to do outreach activities aiming to increase understanding of the outcomes from the SATREPS Project.
