SATREPS Wrap-up Meeting

Before the termination of five year cooperation since January 2012, the SATREPS Wrap-up Meeting was held on 13th of January 2017 at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi. The closing of the project was observed by various stakeholders included approximately 70 participants from several institutions such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Kenya office, the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Kenya, the Kenya Medial Research Institute (KEMRI), international donors and NGOs.

At the beginning of the meeting, the opening remarks were given by Ms. Keiko Sano (Chief Representative of JICA Kenya Office), Dr. Naphtali Agata (Chairperson of KEMRI Board of Management), Dr. Peter Mwitari (Assistant Director, Resource Development and Knowledge Management, KEMRI) and Dr. David Soti (Head, Department of Promotive & Preventive Health, MOH).

Following the opening remarks, JICA Experts, KEMRI researchers and MOH officers presented the achievements of development of rapid diagnostic test kits (ImmunoLine) and an early warning system (mSOS).

After the presentation, ImmnoLine was handed-over to KEMRI, while mSOS was taken over to MOH.

After the completion of the project, MOH and KEMRI are expected to continue the measures against infectious diseases including Yellow fever and Rift Valley fever.
