Project on Enhancing Gender Responsive Extension Services in Kenya
The livelihood of the smallholder female and male farmers is improved.
Institutional capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MOALF) to promote gender responsive agriculture extension services is enhanced.
0-1 | Conduct internal study meetings and workshops to facilitate the understanding of C/P on concept and activities of the SHEP gender mainstreaming approach. |
0-2 | Conduct a workshop for, Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Gender Mainstreaming Committee and the Partner Project staff members on concept and activities of the SHEP gender mainstreaming approach. |
0-3 | Organize an internal workshop for the PIU members to be fully acquainted with the Partner Project. |
0-4 | Agree on a working modality and detailed implementation plan with the Partner Project for the development of the "Gender Mainstreaming Package". |
0-5 | In consultation with the Partner Project, select two pilot sub-counties which work on different commodities. |
1-1 | Sensitize the Sub-County Agricultural Officers (SCAOs) in the pilot sub-counties as well as their CDA and the County Executive officers (Agriculture) on the Project activities. |
1-2 | Conduct a gender analysis study in the pilot sub-counties. |
1-3 | Formulate an action plan as well as a training plan based on the result of gender analysis study conducted above (1-2). |
1-4 | Develop a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework based on the result of the conducted gender analysis study above (1-3). |
1-5 | Conduct a baseline survey on target farmer groups in the pilot sub-counties for collection of M&E data (*Data collection on the non-target farmer groups to be also undertaken in order to conduct with/without impact analysis) |
1-6 | Develop the gender training materials based on the training plan (1-3), referring to the SHEP gender training materials. |
1-7 | Conduct TOT trainings for concerned staff in Sub-county Agriculture offices in the pilot sub-counties. |
1-8 | Monitor and support the officers trained under Activity 1-7 to conduct training for the target farmers groups. |
1-9 | Support the Partner Project to implement other activities identified in the developed action plan (1-3) of each sub-counties.(e.g. introducing small-scale gender friendly appropriate technologies, etc.) |
1-10 | Conduct a M&E study on the activities implemented in the pilot sub-counties. |
1-11 | Taking into account the outcomes of the M&E study (1-10), prepare the draft "Gender Mainstreaming Package" for smallholder agriculture projects with the training materials and guidelines developed through the Activities (1-1 ~ 1-10) incorporated. |
2-1 | Develop a training programme and materials for the concerned staffs of MOALF and CDA in order to develop their capacity to implement the "Gender Mainstreaming Package". |
2-2 | Conduct training based on the developed training programme above (2-1) for Gender Officers of CDA and gender focal point of smallholder agriculture project. |
2-3 | Select three (3) pilot sub-counties to apply (/and verify) the "Gender Mainstreaming Package". |
2-4 | In collaboration with Gender Officers of the target CDA as well as Partner Project officers, implement a series of activities elaborated in the "Gender Mainstreaming Package" in the target smallholder agriculture project. |
2-5 | Review the implementation processes and the impact of activities and finalizes the "Gender Mainstreaming Package" and the training program for the effective implementation of the Package. |
3-1 | Organize workshops to introduce the "Gender Mainstreaming Package" to the officers and stakeholders concerned in the other Counties and sub-counties. |
3-2 | Conduct the training programs to implement the "Gender Mainstreaming Package" at the Agriculture Training Centres in Kenya. |
