TOT in the third year

2012-09-10~14

TOT for principals and ATs was conducted from 10th to 14th of September. The first day was a preparation of TOT at provincial level. From the second day, each district conducted one-day TOT together with district feedback. Finally, provincial feedback was held on the last day. (It took four days for Kammouane province, while other provinces took five days, because Kammouane has only two target districts.)

1. TOT program

AM:One math and one science lesson plans were introduced to the participants. Trainers explained well-considered points in the lesson plans. At the demonstration of science experiments, the participants absorbedly took part in them like children. We are glad if participants feel it is important that the lesson makes children absorbedly participate. After explaining the lesson plans, participants gave us several comments on the lesson plans to improve.

PM:The participants shared the experiences of IS which they conducted in the last year. According to their reports, the principals and ATs explained ITSME lesson plans to the teachers, and the teachers practiced lessons based on it. As a result of utilization of the lesson plans, the teachers commented “It is easy to follow because the lesson plan is quite clear to show what a teacher should do.” and “Lesson made students understand deeply.

The participants made the action plan of IS with ITSME lesson plans which were introduced in this TOT. Some principals who get used to plan IS finished earlier. However, other many principals took time because they were struggling to utilize the form for IS plan. Therefore, this form will be reconsidered in the next workshop.

Due to the difficulty of visiting all 105 target schools by the trainers, the project provided a report form of implementation of IS with the explanation of how to utilize it.

At the end of the TOT, all the participants answered a questionnaire in order to survey their satisfaction on TOT and the result of implementation of IS last year. The result of the questionnaire shows 99% of target schools conducted IS. However, they are facing the difficulty such as lack of teaching materials and tools. So, the project needs to consider improvement of the lesson plans to reduce those difficulties.

2.TOT district feedback and provincial feedback

In the district feedback, trainers who observed TOT commented on the way of presentation to improve. In the provincial feedback, trainers summarized the contents and the methods of the presentations and agreed to make enough preparation for the next TOT. Through TOT, we found the difference of the quality of the presentations done by the trainers who have been participating since the first year from that of done by the trainers who participate this year. It means that the trainers, who continuously experienced the project activities in last two years, are steadily improving their mastery on the lesson planning.
