Second workshop in the fourth year

2013-03-01~03-15

The second workshop was held at Pakse TTC from 11 to 15 March. This workshop consisted of the summary of Endline Survey and making ITSME materials. On the last day of the workshop, Mr. Chandy PHOMMABOUTH, Director of Department of Teacher Education (DTE), attended the workshop to praise the project's contribution to the school activities, and express his willingness of the continuation of the project activities.

1. Summary of Endline Survey

The project conducted Endline Survey in the preceding two weeks. Therefore, each trainer summarized what he/she learned and found on teachers and students through the survey. Moreover, based on the learning and findings, each trainer considered how the project improve ITSME materials and support teachers in the future. After individual consideration, they shared their idea within the provincial team. Finally, the representative of the provincial team presented their findings and idea to improve the project activity. From their presentations, it can be seen that trainers improved their abilities on lesson observation and the way of the survey, and how to improve ITSME materials. However, in terms of assistances for the teachers, trainers could not suggest any alternative idea to increase the supports beyond the present situation. Therefore, the project should have an opportunity to discuss with trainers on this point.

Furthermore, the trainers analysed lesson plans, made by teachers before and after the project, which were collected through Endline Survey. Trainers found that almost all lesson plans after the project were made by following ITSME idea. Therefore, those lesson plans show the clear flow of the lesson. However, learning activities which are most important contents in a lesson plan are not considered and rearranged well but just copied from the textbook. Those findings will improve ITSME materials.

2. Making ITSME materials

Continuously, ITSME materials, model lesson plans, were developed in this workshop. All lesson plans assigned to each trainer were presented to the others to show their progresses and obtain comments of other trainers and experts. Some lesson plans are well-developed as they show clear flow of the lesson and effective learning activities. On the other hand, others need to improve more to consider the introduction and learning activities. Those lesson plans are finalized in the next workshop.

3. Guidance by DTE

On the second day of the workshop, Mr. Simoungkhoun VONGCHAMPA, coordinator of the project, explained the future ITSME activities and the idea of the budgetary allocation, which should be settled in their regular activities of the trainers. Moreover, Mr. Chandy PHOMMABOUTH, Director of DTE, presented his idea to continue ITSME activities. These explanations encouraged the trainers to act for the continuation of ITSME activities.
