Fifth workshop in the fourth year

The fifth workshop was conducted at Khammouane PES from 1st of July for 1 week. This workshop had many activities such as TOT summary, post-test, finalization and comparison of ITSME materials, and preparation for EQS training. In addition, JICA terminal evaluation team visited the workshop to observe their activities and interview them.

1. Report for implementation of TOT

Each provincial team reported their TOT activity conducted in the past week. After reporting, Japanese experts asked the trainers whether each activity in TOT was appropriate or not for teachers. Based on teachers' attitude toward TOT and results of questionnaire for teachers, the trainers judged that each activity was appropriate. Especially, trainers said that the results of Endline survey encouraged teachers to conduct IS activity continuously.

After summarizing TOT, trainers considered how they can continue ITSME activity in the future. Their discussion showed they realized how they have to manage ITSME activity. In order to make concrete plan for the future, they need to discuss more on this.

2. Post-test

Post-test was conducted to confirm the improvement of trainers' subject knowledge. Their attitude during the test was like students. The result of post-test shows the improvement of trainers' subject knowledge. However, they mistook some questions. It means that they have not yet fully understood subjects' basic knowledge. Therefore, they need to study continuously.

3. Finalization and comparison of ITSME materials

ITSME materials for the fourth year were finalized by all trainers. The trainers presented the contents one by one to check. Although they did not change many parts, they tried to improve the sentences to make teachers understand well. However, it seems that it is not easy to compose Lao sentences to make all teachers have the same idea. Finally, even the trainers could not be satisfied with all parts, the most qualified ITSME materials were developed among ITSME materials.

After finalization, the trainers compared the final version of materials with its first draft. As a result, trainers realized which points were not satisfied in the first draft to meet ITSME quality. They should consider these points enough to make a lesson plan in the future.

4. Preparation for EQS training

In July, EQS (Education Quality Standard) training will be held at 26 districts across the country. As MOES decided to introduce ITSME activity and ITSME lesson preparation in this training, ITSME trainers were requested to make a presentation as lecturers. In response to this, ITSME trainers prepared all documents for the training. As the result of the trainers' discussion, they decided to make presentations applying the contents of TOT in the past week. However, as participants for this training will be exposed to ITSME ideas at the first time, ITSME trainers had to reconsider the contents and the way of introducing ITSME project. After making each presentation, the trainers practiced the presentation as much as possible. Finally, as they prepared the documents to take to the training, they could not practice the presentation enough. Therefore, trainers practice the presentation by themselves. It is not sure that trainers will present ITSME properly. However, this is a good chance to show ITSME idea to other people and expand to their area in the future. We believe that this activity makes trainers improve themselves.
