Sixth workshop in the fourth year

2013-09-16~09-20

Sixth workshop was conducted at Savannakhet TTC from 16th of September for a week. As this is the last workshop by JICA assistance, sum-up of ITSME activities and discussion of the future plan were mainly organized. At opening of the workshop, Mr. Chandy PHOMMABOUTH, Director of Department of Teacher Education (DTE) expressed his appreciation on the project activities to trainers, and encouraged them to continue the activities.

1. Report of EQS(Education Quality Standard) training

EQS training was held for teachers to improve their teaching at 26 districts across the country in July. ITSME trainers were invited to the training to introduce ITSME activities. Each trainer reported the results of the training in each district to share experiences to all trainers. Many teachers who participated in EQS training were very interested in ITSME activities and eager to know further details. We believe that EQS training was a good opportunity for not only teachers to learn ITSME activities and lesson preparation, but also ITSME trainers experienced how to introduce ITSME activities to the people who do not know ITSME yet.

2. Report on each organization's activity

Kayson, Champhone and Bachieng DEB reported their activities. They conducted TOT for all teachers in their district in August. Their efforts show that each DEB is actively disseminating ITSME activities.

3. Report on the result of JICA terminal evaluation

The results of JCIA terminal evaluation was shared to all trainers. The report showed that JICA evaluation team evaluated high value of the project activities, and further recommendations. In addition, all trainers reconfirmed what the project purpose and what outputs were.

4. Introductory materials

In order to disseminate ITSME activities, introductory materials of ITSME activities were developed. The following three materials were developed. Each material consists of PowerPoint presentation and sample script to use the PowerPoint.

1) Introduction of ITSME approach
This material introduces ITSME policy, ITSME lesson and ITSME procedure which is 4 steps. As this material is related to ITSME Manual 2nd edition, which is also introduced at same time.

2) Introduction of ITSME lesson planning
This material introduces how to make an ITSME lesson plan and characteristics of ITSME lesson plan. As this material is related to ITSME Lesson Preparation manual, the manual is also introduced at same time.

3) Introduction of IS activity
This material introduces some examples of IS activities in target schools. These examples show how teachers can conduct IS with ITSME materials, and expected issues and their solutions.

5. Future plan

Each organization is actively conducting ITSME activities. However, the trainers discussed the future activity to make it concretized. They had to consider both plans for each organization and for provincial team. In order to make the provincial network maintained, the trainers discussed the provincial activities in this workshop. They considered not only the plan of activities but also budgetary plan. After they made the plan at each province, they presented the plan to directors of target DEB, PES and TTC to discuss the plan on the budget and dissemination area. Although it can be said that securing budget is an biggest issue, the directors agreed with the plan to continue and disseminate ITSME activities. Based on the directors' comments, ITSME trainers revised their plan to make it suit real situation. Furthermore, trainers suggested having a meeting for all ITSME trainers to share their idea and experience even once a year. Therefore, they considered the meeting to include their future plan.

In this workshop, both the trainers and the directors recognized the project effect, and expressed their eagerness of continuity and dissemination of ITSME activities under their own responsibility. We wish their future plan will come true.
