Introduction of livestock Team

PhotoActivity of Livestock Team

Livestock team has implemented activities in two initial clusters out of 8 clusters in southern 4 provinces covered by the project, and we may expand to target clusters in a later half of the project period. We are trying to do activities using examples from related JICA Projects because the extension of livestock technique in this area is the first challenge, not like aquaculture team (AQIP 1 & 2).

Livestock team decided to provide cattle for farmer by being reflected on intention of government staff (PAFO, DAFO) and villagers. We will provide not only live animals but also the technical training course for livestock and basic knowledge of ruminant animal including cattle and goats. This training was carried out for the staff members who work in PAFO, DAFO, and participants of this training will teach target villagers (mainly Village Veterinary Worker) content of the training. We have a plan to organize Village Livestock Production Committee (VLPC) and prepare the system of accepting livestock. We are engaged in livelihood improvement and hope to create the high quality beef as a special product of this region.

Target Cluster
Somboun Cluster, Phouvong District, Attapeu Province
Banhieng Cluster, Sukhuma District, Champasack Province

The livestock team consists of 2 Lao Counterpart, 1 national staff and 1 Japanese long term expert on livestock. Our team members have enough experience in livestock field especially cattle and buffaloes.
