Introduction of Integrated Agriculture Team

PhotoActivity of Integrated agriculture team

Integrated Agriculture Team has implemented activities in Doup Cluster, Taoy District, Salawan Province. People's livelihood has been relied on mainly shifting cultivation in the cluster. In order to promote more stable livelihood from shifting cultivation to paddy rice cultivation, Lao Government installed irrigation scheme and technical service center (TSC) as center of extension in the cluster. The TSC has conducted activities such as giving guidance how to produce paddy rice, and providing fingerings and seedlings of Non-timber forest products (NTFPs) to neighboring villagers.

Integrated Agriculture Team has a plan to enhance the activities of TSC and promote integrated aquaculture and agroforestry in the Doup village and neighboring villages in the cluster. TSC enhancement includes improvement of fish pond and nursery for producing seedlings of fruits trees and NTFPs. We hope the TSC will continually provide fingerings and seedlings of fruits trees and NTFPs to the villagers. Integrated aquaculture may be implemented by the villagers who can utilize irrigated water and agroforestry may be implemented by the villagers who are conducting shifting cultivation. Initial input such as seedlings to the participating villagers will become cluster level Revolving fund that other villagers also can utilize in the future.
